Remodeling Services:

Need open up your floor plan or reconfigure your kitchen? Remodeling is what separates a decorator from a designer. Counterpane Interiors is an insured and accredited Interior Design firm that is equipped to design and oversee the remodeling of any and all spaces within a building envelope. Below is an example of the design process executed by Counterpane Interiors during a typical remodeling project. Actual services rendered depend on the scope of the project at hand.

Typical sequence of a remodeling project:

Initial consult

The initial consult crucial to starting a remodeling project off on the right foot. This is the first meeting in the project space. This is when client and designer discuss the project and determine scope and budget for the work. Some preliminary measurements of the space are taken at this time. This meeting typically takes 90 minutes and has a flat rate of $100.00.

Project Agreement and Payment of Retainer

If you express interest in working with us beyond the initial consult, we will draft a document outlining the scope of the project. This document will serve as a road map for keeping the project on track. A modest retainer fee will be stated in this document. Work on the project begins only after receipt of the signed project agreement and the retainer payment.

Analysis and Programming

This is a brief study based on the client’s goals, code requirements, existing conditions of the project space, aesthetic tastes and intended usage of the space. During this time, online collaborative mood boards will be set up and populated.

Schematic Design

During this phase, we explore all planning options. We complete the necessary 2D and 3D sketches and design concept studies based on the needs of the project. Typically we show the clients 2-4 design schemes which they can pursue. Oftentimes, clients will choose elements of several schemes to achieve the design that will be developed. Please expect one in-person meeting at the end of this phase.

Design Development

This is when the details come to life. We take the scheme that was selected during the schematic design phase and begin generating detailed plans and drawings from it. This is a fluid process with a lot of decision making on the part of both client and designer.

This phase will result in a well developed design concept, detailed plans, elevations and, computer aided 3D renderings and preliminary selection of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) for the purpose of client/designer communication.

Concept development will happen in compliance with the appropriate code requirements and sustainability guidelines. Please expect 1-3 in-person meetings during this phase. Near the completion of this phase we will be nailing down final FF&E selections.

Documentation

By the start of the documentation phase, all design decisions have been made. Now is the time to inject our concept with all the technical elements needed for the contractor to secure the appropriate permits and to build out the project.

Implementation and Completion

The home stretch — this is the final phase of the remodeling project. We will check in often and will keep open and clear communication between all parties involved with the project. Counterpane Interiors will oversee the project to completion, ensuring that it is built as specified. Please expect photos to be taken at the completion of your project.

Decorating Services:

Does your home need to be introduced to the 21st Century? Maybe you need new paint, flooring, furniture layout, artwork and accessories? We can provide all of that! Allow us to adapt your personal aesthetic (you do have one, even if you think you don’t) to your interior space.

Typical sequence of a decorative project:

Initial consult

The initial consult crucial to starting a remodeling project off on the right foot. This is the first meeting in the project space. This is when client and designer discuss the project and determine scope and budget for the work. Some preliminary measurements of the space are taken at this time. This meeting typically takes 90 minutes and has a flat rate of $100.00.

Signing of Project Agreement and Payment of Retainer

If you express interest in working with us beyond the initial consult, we will draft a document outlining the scope of the project. This document will serve as a road map for keeping the project on track. A modest retainer fee will be stated in this document. Work on the project begins only after receipt of the signed project agreement and the retainer payment.

Analysis and Programming

This is a brief study based on the client’s goals, code requirements, existing conditions of the project space, aesthetic tastes and intended usage of the space. During this time, online collaborative mood boards will be set up and populated.

Aesthetic Presentation

This is where we take all the inspiration based on your mood boarding, and lifestyle needs and create a visual presentation of what your space will look like. We like to show at least two  decorative options during this phase.

Implementation & Completion

Armed with feedback from the aesthetic presentation, we go forth and procure all the necessary elements to make our visual representation a reality. Typically we shop for our clients and then put their room together as items are procured — this is especially true for large furniture items because moving them once is better for them than moving them multiple times. If you are a hands-on client you are welcome to accompany us on some shopping trips if you feel so inclined.

Just as jewelry is often the element that pulls a whole outfit together, decorative accessories are what pull a whole room together. We typically add all accessories to the space near the end of this phase. Clients can then choose the accessories that speak most to them and buy those items directly off of us. Please expect photos to be taken at the completion of your project.

Counterpane Interiors requires that most projects be photographed upon completion. Photographs are used for the purpose of marketing and portfolio submission. Client names and addresses of projects will be kept confidential. The resulting photographs are the property of the photographer.

Every project, large or small, requires a written and signed contract with Counterpane Interiors. Contacts are drawn up after initial consult and outline all aspects of the project at hand. Think of the contract as the road map that we chart out during the initial consult. Work begins after approval of the contract by all parties.
